ABOUT

This is my media journal. It basically exists so I can ramble on about my favorite books, movies, music, video games, TV shows, etc. I'll unprofessionally give my opinions on media I devour and sometimes I'll try to be neat and concise and write reviews, short or long.

You'll probably find a little bit of everything here. I don't really limit myself when it comes to genres. As long as it pleases my eyes/ears/brain, I like it.

It's worth noting that this started out as a book journal and my first love is literature. The main focus of this journal is still on books, but I couldn't resist the urge to include my other hobbies too. I'm a very entertainment-focused person.

CAPTIVANT?

Captivant is a French word meaning gripping, fascinating, or the obvious captivating. In French, a page-turner (a book so good you can't put it down) is translated as un livre captivant. Because captivant is half of a commonly used compound word when discussing good books, I thought it would be a fitting title for this journal.

RATING SYSTEM

When I review something, I use a point rating system that ranges from 1-5 and goes something like this:

1 - I didn't like it at all.
2 - It was okay, but overall more bad than good.
3 - It was good, but could have been a little stronger.
4 - I really liked it! I'd definitely buy it.
5 - It can't be beat! It's one of my favorites.

I will also award half points sometimes, but I'll try to avoid it.

Although I said I don't limit myself, which is true, it might help if I gave you an idea of the sort of stuff I gravitate towards. I tried to narrow each category down to top fifteen favorites.
